Family vacations make for the best bonding moments. Everyone gets to come together and participate in fun family activities.
If you are planning to have a fun away time with family and are wondering where to start, you have come to the right place.
#1. The destination; make a wish list of vacation destinations.
First of all, you need to decide where you want to go. The best place to start is by making a list of sa manay destinations as possible that you and your family would wish to go try.
This is an inclusive exercise that should involve everyone; even the little ones. This way everyone feels that they have been heard and contributed in the vacation planning process and you will also have a larger pool of ideas and options.
#2. Research about your wishlist destinations
Now it’s time to sieve your list so you can determine which one might be the most ideal for your family’s get away.
Do extensive research about the destinations that you and your family members came up with in step one.
Look at the packages and family-friendly offers that are available for each and compare. Doing this will help you narrow down your choices to one or to the worst two.
#3. Choose an accommodation type for your vacation
Now that you know where you will be going, you need to choose where you would want to spend your nights.
There are many types of accommodation to choose from: a hotel, resort, cottage, tent or an Airbnb property.
Each one of these is a good option but the best for you will depend on the environment your going to, the whether, how big your family is, how long your vacation will be and your budget. In all you got to see that all the members of the family who will be traveling will be comfortable in the accommodation type you choose.
#4. Set a budget for your vacation
What is a vacation without a budget? You need to set a budget that you will follow on your family vacation otherwise no amount of money would be enough.
A budget is meant to keep you from spending more than you want to. You can share this budget with your family so that they know that spending outside of the budget is out of the question.
#5. Make a schedule of your vacation activities
Make a loose schedule of your activities you and your family would want to partake in. You don’t want to plan every second of every day of the trip but a flexible mock up of the activities that you want to do. That would just be crazy.
This schedule will give you a rough idea of the main activities the family will do together during your get away.
Be sure to leave in room for spontaneity.
#6. Make bookings
Start booking and organising activities. First book your means of travel, then accommodation and make reservations for all the other activities you plan to engage in.
If you are going to a theme park or to see a show you might want to book or purchase the tickets in advance. In some cases buying the ticket on the D- day might cost you more or the tickets might be sold out by that time.
It’s better to be prepared than sorry.
Before you go…
Make sure that you pay bills that might be due in the time that you are gone. Coming home to no power or water is not a great way to end your trip.
If you are going to have a house sitter / someone to look after the house while you are gone, you should let them know early so that they too can prepare themselves for when you are gone.
